Police say a woman was operating her car while intoxicated before a deadly crash that killed her 3-year-old son.
On Thursday night, the woman was driving eastbound on east 7 Mile in the wrong direction, ran a red light and hit a car that was going north on Hayes.
A witness, Desmond Lemon, said he saw the 3-year-old fly out of the van while still in his car seat.
"It was pure chaos, the worst thing you would ever see," he said.
Lemon said the mother was there, devastated about her son. Her 3-month-old daughter was also in the van, but is expected to be okay.
The mother's family said she had been getting help for some mental concerns and was taking medication for it. Police say she has been charged with operating while impaired.
