A Detroit Police Officer has been charged with being in possession of firearms while under the influence.
Jerold Blanding was on restricted duty while under investigation for the Feb. 13, 2017 fatal shooting of 19-year-old Raynard Burton, when officers responded to an injury car accident on Jan. 14 and encountered Blanding, who was off-duty at the time and appeared to be intoxicated.
Blanding was not involved in the accident, but reportedly knew the victim. Police say his "speech was slurred and he smelled of intoxicants." Additionally, it is alleged that Blanding was in possession of three handguns and resisted and obstructed police who were attempting to provide aid to the accident victim.
Blanding is charged with three counts of Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence, eight counts of Resisting and Obstructing the Police and six counts of Felony Firearm.
