DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police conducted a raid on Friday afternoon at four homes on the city's east side, allegedly where a dog fighting ring was centered.

The raid happened after 1 p.m. at the homes on Edmore Drive, west of Gratiot and south of 8 Mile in northeast Detroit, as well as Balfour Street.

There were a total of four search warrants.

Michigan Humane Society workers were also on scene with police taking several dogs out of the backyard that appeared to be in wooden dog houses.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning, the Michigan Humane Society wrote that at least 35 dogs were rescued:

The Michigan Humane Society cruelty investigation team, working alongside the Detroit police department, took in 35 dogs yesterday as part of an ongoing dog-fighting investigation.
