Detroit police identify suspect who allegedly murdered woman, threw body in a dumpster

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are asking for the public's help in locating a suspect after a 27-year-old woman was found dead inside a dumpster on the city's east side Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old James Quill Cockerham. He is accused of killing the woman, then throwing her body in a dumpster.

The woman's body was found inside a dumpster at Parkview Apartments in the 1600 block of Robert Bradby Drive.

We're told the woman and Cockerham met on the elevator of the building.

He also has a criminal history and was just released from prison.

Cockerham is described as a black male, medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark colored sweatshirt with a hood and wheat colored boots.

Police are also looking for a dark colored vehicle in connection with the homicide.
