It appears that Major League Soccer will not be coming to Detroit in the near future. According to Cincinnati.com, MLS is coming to the city next week and it's likely that they will announce FC Cincinnati as the next expansion team.
According to the Enquirer, the major announcement is expected on Tuesday and MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be in attendance.
Detroit was named one of four finalists to be the next two MLS expansion teams, along with Nashville, Cincinnati and Sacramento. In December, Garber announced that Nashville would be getting the first team.
Dan Gilbert and Tom Gores teamed up for the MLS bid, and the Ford Family joined later, offering up Ford Field as the team's home. That combination may have actually hurt Detroit's chances as the MLS prefers soccer-specific stadiums.
