DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Riverwalk has just earned top honors from USA Today after being named Best Riverwalk in America.
Featured in the 2021 USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards contest, the Detroit Riverwalk went up against 20 riverwalks across the country.
“Every great city has a place where the entire community comes together,” said Mark Wallace, president and CEO of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, in a press release. “Detroiters love their riverfront, and we are incredibly proud to be recognized and celebrated on a national level.”
The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy said use of the Detroit Riverwalk has increased by 20 percent during the pandemic, and typically attracts about 3.5 million visitors annually. The Conservancy said they have invested more than $200 million in the revitalization of the Detroit Riverfront and that it has since generated more than $2 billion in public and private investment.
