(WXYZ) — The Detroit Tigers open the 2019 home season at Comerica Park on Thursday for Opening Day. With tens of thousands of people expected to flock to downtown Detroit for Opening Day, parking will be at a premium.

Parking lots that currently have $7 parking fees for a day rate will spike to $40 and above on game day. According to parking apps like Park Whiz and SpotHero, you can pre-pay for parking in some locations. If you’re willing to walk there are still a few spots available between $20-$30.
Many restaurants throughout downtown Detroit and the metro Detroit area also have shuttles to take you to and from Comerica Park for Opening Day and for all Tigers games. Those shuttles will pick up and drop of on Clifford between Elizabeth and Columbia and the Fisher Freeway.
Those willing to walk can park near the Q-Line and pay to get a ride into town. There’s also the option of parking near the Renaissance Center and riding the People Mover to get closer to District Detroit, a handful of Smart Buses can also get you into the area if you want to park in the suburbs and ride a bus in.
Those who know the pitfalls of Opening Day, though say if you’re not part of the party it may not be worth the trip into town.
“It’s just going to be wild,” said Robert Brown. “It’s very expensive too. It gets pretty ridiculous down here.”
“You’ve got to get here as early as possible because if you can’t park in the street it’s very expensive,” said Willie Burton.
Other options for transportation to and from Comerica Park include using a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft. Wallside Windows has teamed up with Lyft to provide half-off Lyft rides on Opening Day.
