DETROIT (WXYZ) — The U.S. Marshals need help tracking down a man they say stalked his ex-girlfriend and shot into their home with his own children inside on the city's west side.

An abusive relationship, domestic violence, stalking and eventually a shooting landed Detroit man Michael Hopkins at the top of the U.S. Marshal's fugitive list.

Nearly a decade of stalking and twice as long in an abusive relationship, officials say Hopkins will not stop. They suspect he will either come back to the west side and try to kill his ex-girlfriend again or he will find another woman to abuse.

"They’ve been broken up since 2009 – so roughly 10 years- he still wants to get back with her just to control her," said Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia. "This kind of behavior over years just don’t stop -- this guy has stalked, he’s threatened -- and he continued to threaten her 10 years later."

Police say Hopkins' behavior only continues to escalate. Most recently, he was involved in a shooting where flying bullets narrowly missed his own children.

"And what does he do next? He comes back to the house, he pulls in the driveway as you see in the video, he tries to go in the side door – the side door is locked, he comes to the front door – pounds on the door -- the victims in the shower the children are downstairs," said Garcia. "She starts yelling to the kids -- whats going on and the gunshots ring out -- bang bang bang -- he shoots 10-15 times, right through the door."

Marshals say the front door showed the wrath of Hopkins rage.

"His own child is in the hallway and just misses getting struck by a round in the hallway on the other side of the door," Garcia said.

Fortunately, no one was shot, and the victim has had a personal protection order for years. But that never stopped Hopkins.

"He continues to stalk her, threaten her by phone, threatening communications," said Garcia.

Michael Hopkins is 6-feet 2-inches and about 175 pounds. He is from Detroit's west side, where he is wanted on multiple felony warrants but he's also wanted by Sylvan Lake Police for fleeing and eluding.

"Is he still around? I don’t know, that’s a fear to me. Is he still lingering around or did he move on to another victim, another woman, female who don't know his background, maybe he’s in another state and he’s attached himself to another woman."
