DETROIT (WXYZ) — A brutal attack on an east side motel worker in September has police searching for a dangerous fugitive and working to identify a second violent attacker.
“They’re trying to seriously harm her, they grab the hammer, they’re throwing hailmakers, I mean she could have hit her in her skull and crushed her skull- she’s just throwing blind hailmakers all over the place,” Deputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia, DFAT supervisor said.
The surveillance video is hard to watch. It shows an employee at the MNM Motel on 8 Mile on Detroit’s east side being violently attacked by a woman and a man.
"The worker is back here trying to get them to leave the property,” Garcia points out on the video.
That’s when you see the unidentified woman kick a car and the victim tells her to leave.
“You can see she rushes in the door, Nathan Payne right behind her, and this guy is holding her down and they’re just beating her up,” Garcia said.
The brutality only grows as police say the man they’ve identified as 44-year-old Nathan Payne tells the unidentified woman to go get a weapon.
“She leaves and gets the hammer, you can see her on video clear as day, just putting a beating on her,” Garcia said.
Miraculously, the victim survived but police telling us she is now in hiding and scared her two attackers will come back to finish the job. That’s why the U.S. Marshals have all hands on deck working to help find her closure.
“Nathan Payne is a third habitual offender, criminal history, narcotics, sex acts and we believe he’s a vagrant person going from hotel to hotel all down 8 Mile on the east side of Detroit,” Garcia said.
And while Payne’s criminal history gives the Marshals clues as to where he may be, finding the unidentified woman is what police really need your help with.
“We’re gonna find this guy, a warrant is out on him, we also need this female identified, they need a viewer to call in, DPD or Crime Stoppers and say this is the girl who’s responsible for orchestrating this whole assault,” Garcia said.
Nathan Payne is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.
“He has that beard and bald head but obviously that can be changed up,” Garcia said. “Detroit Police investigators are asking for any viewer who identifies this girl in the video to call up Crime Stoppers, call Detroit Police Department, give her name so she can be identified.”
As always, there is a cash reward for any information leading to the arrest of Nathan Payne or any of Detroit’s Most Wanted. You can call the U.S. Marshals anytime at (313) 234-5656.
