DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Police are investigating a double shooting on the city's west side that killed a young father.
"He was a nice guy. He was a sweetheart," said a neighbor and family friend of the victim, who family members identified as Shawn Brown.
Brown, 28, was sitting inside a parked Jeep Cherokee along with another man outside his family member's home on Orangelawn and Beaverland Sunday afternoon just before 3 p.m. when investigators said someone inside a Silver Toyota pulled up and started shooting.
Both Brown and the other man, also 28, according to police, were both struck by gunfire.
“I heard a bunch of gunshots," said one neighbor, who asked that we not use their name. "I was like man, they sound close. And when I came around the corner, I seen him laying in the truck.”

Brown, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the Jeep Cherokee, according to police, died at the scene. The other man managed to get out of the jeep and drove to an area hospital. He is in serious condition, according to police.
“Nobody deserve that though for real. These kids need to find a way to figure stuff out without all this gun violence," said a neighbor.
Friends told Action News Brown had just welcomed a new baby.
People who live in the area, which borders Redford, said it's generally pretty safe. Sunday's double shooting has left neighbors with a lot of questions.
Detroit Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
