DETROIT (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal crash on I-96 Saturday.
On June 27 around 4 p.m., troopers responded to westbound I-96 local lanes exit to Grand River Ave and Schaefer Hwy for a single car crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed the 22-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control. The driver hit the right wall at the base of the ramp and began rolling down the freeway. MSP says he was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver was declared dead on the scene.
Excessive speed and failure to wear a seatbelt are factors in the crash, according to MSP.
