EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A city worker in Eastpointe has after a trench collapse while he worked to repair a water main break.
It happened on Gratiot near 8 Mile on Wednesday evening, and crews were able to rescue the man after the collapse.
Witness Dean Pollard said he and others tried to help the worker just before firefighters, jumping into the trench for about 10 minutes.
The Eastpointe Deputy Fire Chief said the worker is in his 40s and lost consciousness while trapped in the hole.
He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries, 7 Action News has learned.
