(WXYZ) — Heads up parents. The National Retail Federation estimates that this will be the most expensive back to school shopping season in history.

We are teaming up with local businesses to help lucky families around metro-Detroit get what they need for back to school. It is called the Seven Action News Back to School Supplies Surprise. Check out the heartwarming videos of families getting surprised by a random act of kindness: someone helping to buy their children school supplies.

Kroger helped us surprise numerous families at stores in Ferndale, Hazel Park, and Dearborn. Meijer helped us surprise families at their store in Roseville on Wednesday and will help us surprise families at another store on Thursday.

Your family could be next.

Thanks to the support of sponsoring businesses we plan to continue to surprise families as they get ready for back to school.

Kroger, Meijer, McKeen & Associates, National Technology Management (NTM), and Powell Consulting Group, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. are all surprise sponsors. We thank them for helping us help families get ready for back to school!
