WXYZ — Even we are surprised by what we found as we worked on Thursday’s 7 Action News Back To School Supplies Surprise. We found music.
For families shopping for back to school at the Meijer in Warren Thursday it was one surprise after another. First -we asked if we could interview them about the stress of back to school shopping.
“I am surprised I get to speak in a microphone,” said Arya Petrakes, who is going into first-grade.
We met Arya, whose mom is very sick with multiple sclerosis. She was shopping with grandma who is helping make sure she is prepared for first grade.
“I am hoping to learn my ABCs, how to write it,” said Arya.
We met a mom who has double the work to do for back to school as she is also a teacher.
“I teach at Warren Woods High School, right around the corner. Hello Titan nation!” said Melissa Chesher, as she shopped with her three daughters.
Then as we interviewed them, we introduced them to a man who calls himself Uncle Herb. He is also known as Meijer’s singing greeter.
He sang to them.
“Welcome welcome! Welcome to our Meijer store,” sang Herb. “Welcome welcome! We adore you shopping at our Meijer store.”
Everyone voiced surprise at the sudden song.
Then we let them know there was another surprise. It is the Back to School Supplies Surprise. WXYZ has teamed up with local businesses to give people a random act of kindness. Meijer had $100 gift cards for school supplies.
All week we have been able to give people a school supplies surprise thanks to help from local businesses.
Kroger, Meijer, McKeen & Associates, National Technology Management, and Powell Consulting Group, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc. (https://www.ameripriseadvisors.com/team/powell-consulting-group) are all surprise sponsors. We thank them for helping us help families get ready for back to school!
