Dingell, who was first elected in 2012 to replace her husband, former Rep. John Dingell, has dominated the district winning by margins of 65% in 2014, 64% in 2016 and 68% in 2018. The district includes parts of Washtenaw and Wayne counties.
She has constantly attacked President Trump and his response to the COVID-19 pandemic during the campaign, and Trump has even attacked Dingell in the past.
During a rally in December 2019, Trump attacked the late John Dingell saying “maybe he was looking up,” implying he was in Hell, as the impeachment vote went on.
“I think it’s time to put politics aside on these kind of shots,” Debbie Dingell said at the time to CNN. “I try to be respectful of everybody. I’ve never taken a personal shot at this president. I think his family is off-limits.”
