(WXYZ) — Although Joe Biden has won Michigan, the state's election system is showing different results than what media outlets have projected.
This is because Michigan's election system is decentralized, according to the Secretary of State.
Results are reported from local jurisdictions to counties. After a county has all jurisdictions reporting, its results are added to the state's election results website.
Media outlets get real-time results from local and county sites.
As of 7 a.m. Thursday morning, 81 of 83 counties have results reported on the state website. Numbers will be fully updated once the remaining two counties add results to the website.
Fact check: because Michigan’s election system is decentralized, results are reported from local jurisdictions to counties, and only after a county has all jurisdictions reporting are its results added to our website. Media get real time results from local and county sites.
