Troy Police say a medical episode may be to blame for a deadly accident.
The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday at Livernois and Wattles.
According to police, a 2005 Ford Escape occupied by three people was traveling westbound on Wattles and attempting to turn southbound onto Livernois when it was struck by a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country.
Police say it appears the driver of the Chrysler, 65-year-old Richard Black of Sterling Heights, had a medical event and failed to stop for a red light.
A passenger in the Ford, 70-year-old Shyamala Ramachandran of India, was killed in the crash. Police say she was sitting in the back seat and was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the vehicle, 77-year-old Narayanaswamy Sethuraman of Troy, and front seat passenger, 35-year-old Mathangi Ramachandran from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, were injured in the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by the Troy Police Dept. and members of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation.
Witnesses are asked to call Troy Police at (248) 524-3477.
