DETROIT (AP) — A community discussion is scheduled about the development of a Detroit trails project named after legendary boxer Joe Louis.

Mayor Mike Duggan's office says the city's General Service Department is seeking feedback Thursday about the Joe Louis Greenway. The bike and pedestrian pathways are expected to connect neighborhoods from the Detroit riverfront to 8 Mile Road.

Residents are being asked to engage in the process of planning commercial activity, affordable housing and economic benefits to the beltline. The community feedback session will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Focus: HOPE offices.

Louis was born in Alabama and later moved with his family to Detroit. He claimed boxing's heavyweight title in 1937 and held it for more than a decade. He died in 1981.
