Construction will soon start on Mound Road to replace concrete with asphalt between 14 and 18 mile roads.
The construction will be happening in both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic in phases, meaning the road will never be completely shut down. However, drivers should expect delays.
“I’m a structural inspector so I have a lot of accounts and places I go to and it just takes a long time, especially with all of Mound Road’s being backed up with the closure of I-696. It just takes longer,” Micheal Wilks said.
Drivers are being encouraged to take alternate routes like Van Dyke to avoid construction. The project should be completed this November.
“It’s what we need to do," Paul Christiani said. "We gotta live with it. They do need to be repaired.”
The rest of Mound Road between I-696 and Hall is in the works to receive a federal grant. However, other funds need to be secured before any more construction start.
