Firefighter injured in apartment building fire in Sterling Heights

A firefighter was injured in an apartment fire in Sterling Heights on Christmas Day.

Crews arrived at the Sterling Troy Apartments at Dequindre around 9 a.m. to find the building engulfed in flames and multiple people trapped. When the first team tried to rush in and rescue people, they became trapped themselves. Firefighters had to jump out of the building and most had minor injuries. One firefighter broke his leg and is currently in surgery.

Roughly 60 apartments were impacted by the fire.

Sterling Heights Police and the American Red Cross are trying to make sure residents are accounted for.
