Ford employees learn their fate as company layoffs begin today

(WXYZ) — Hundred of people working at Ford will find out whether they'll keep their jobs Tuesday.

Formal notifications of layoffs will begin today, meaning people coming into work this morning will soon learn their fate.

The CEO announced yesterday the layoffs are needed to keep the company moving in the future.

500 U.S. workers in will be laid off this week. By the end of July, 800 U.S. workers will be laid off.

According to the company, 300 have already been let go. We are told 1,500 have already left the company voluntarily through buyouts.

These layoffs will impact 2,300 people in the United States who depend on Ford for a job.

In August, 7,000 people working for Ford are expected to be laid off. Ford says the layoffs are expected to save the company $600 million per year.

Ford CEO Jim Hackett said in a memo, workers being let go will have a few days to wrap up their jobs and say goodbye. In the past, workers were asked to leave immediately.
