AAA Michigan says the statewide average price for a gallon of gas has officially dropped below $1.50.
The last time Michigan saw this average was January 6, 2004--about 12 years ago.
According to AAA, the average price in metro Detroit is now also about $1.49.
Statewide, prices are down about 13 cents from last week and 73 cents from this time last year.
A strengthening U.S. dollar and record supply levels are cited as some of the reasons for the low price, according to AAA.
