Drivers in metro Detroit are continuing to see a rise at the pump, according to GasBuddy. The company says gas has risen 4.2 cents per gallon in the last week, putting it at $2.68 per gallon on average.
According to GasBuddy, that's 8 cents higher than the national average of $2.60 per gallon, which is up 4.7 cents.
Even compared to last year, prices are much higher. They are 39.4 cents higher than a year ago and 24.2 cents per gallon higher than a moth ago.
The lowest came in 2016 when gas this week averaged $1.96 per gallon.
Ann Arbor and Flint are also seeing higher prices, up 6.2 cents and 9 cents respectively. They're both averaging $2.72 per gallon while Toledo is down 5.5 cents to $2.45 per gallon.
"The jump at the pump has continued unabated over the last week as oil prices have rallied and the typical spring fever starts to grip energy markets, causing gas prices to continue to accelerate," said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "The Great Lakes led the region as the region cycled one step closer to the final summer-spec gasoline in the last week, and with the change, a price rise that was passed on from the wholesale to retail level, pushing their prices to tie for the highest prices in a couple years."
