Gas prices continue to rise in metro Detroit with higher demand

Gas prices in metro Detroit are continuing to rise with higher than usual demand for this time of year, according to AAA Michigan.

According to AAA, gas prices in metro Detroit are up about 4 cents to $2.56 per gallon, which was also up 3 cents per gallon last week.

That's also up about 24 cents from this time last year.

Prices in the state are also up about 5 cents per gallon to $2.59 a gallon, according to AAA. The lowest prices are in the Traverse City area where it's about $2.53 a gallon and the highest in Jackson where its about $2.64 a gallon.

Michigan is 11th in the nation for most expensive daily gas prices and 1st in the nation for biggest change in weekly average price.
