A gas station clerk has been charged in connection with a deadly shooting on Detroit's west side.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Rami Ali Jaber, 26, of Dearborn Heights, for the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Derek Roberts.

The shooting occurred Sunday, May 13 at a Citgo gas station on the 17000 block of West McNichols.

Investigators tell 7 Action News the clerk got into an argument with a customer Sunday afternoon.

According to a release, the Roberts allegedly approached the counter to make a purchase and a disturbance occurred between he and the clerk.

Jaber then allegedly came from behind the counter and fired shots at Roberts' chest.

Roberts was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead and Jaber was arrested at the scene.

“We want justice," said Kevell Gray, a friend of Roberts. "We want to know why? What happened? I don’t know the full story of what happened but all I know is he’s gone.”

Jaber is now facing first degree murder and felony firearm charges. He will be arraigned Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.
