(WXYZ) — General Motors announced Tuesday it is investing more than $100 million in several Michigan plants as it moves production to its next level.
The announcement came as the automaker announced the Spring Hill, Tennessee plan will transition to an electric-vehicle manufacturing site for the all-new Cadillac LYRIQ.
The investments in Michigan plants include:
- $17 million in Romulus propulsion plant to enhance automation and increase capacity of GM's 10-speed truck transmission, which is used in several vehicles
- $32 million in Flint Assembly Plant for future production of the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups
- $3.5 million in the Orion Assembly plant related to the additional production of the Cruise AV test vehicle
- $750,000 to GM's Brownstown Township site related to additional production of the Cruise AV test vehicle
- Production of GMC Acadia to move to Lansing Delta Township Assembly, representing an investment of more than $100 million
“We are committed to investing in the U.S., our employees and our communities,” said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra. “These investments underscore the success of our vehicles today, and our vision of an all-electric future.”
