State officials and legal experts are exploring options and one could be declaring an emergency.
This is week two of work being stopped on major road construction projects across the state and Metro Detroit. The dispute between the consortium of companies and the Operating Engineers has no end in sight.
The major project on the east side, I-696 is only half done and is scheduled to be finished in November. If it is delayed and runs past that winter weather could also prevent it being completed.
One legal expert in Michigan Labor Law says the state could bring in new contractors to finish jobs with non-union labor, but nothing like that is being planned.
We will keep you posted on developments as these stopped road projects affect so many of us.
Editor's note: Our series "Getting Around Metro Detroit" explores the problems and solutions to transportation issues throughout our area.
