Drivers heading east on I-696 will have another headache to deal with as crews will close the Mound Rd. exit, leaving just two exits open on EB I-696 as part of the Moving Macomb project.

Those who want to get off the freeway using the Mound Rd. exit will have follow the Dequindre Rd. exit signs but continue past the Dequindre exit to exit at Mound.

Here's how it works:

  • If you want to exit at Mound, stay in the right two lanes after I-75
  • Follow the right two lanes at the Dequindre Rd. exit
  • Continue past the Dequindre Rd. exit, driving on new pavement and get off at the Mound Rd. exit.

The department said the change has to happen to remove and replace the concrete on the temporary crossover and ramp.

MDOT said from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, crews will close two lanes of EB I-696 from Woodward to east of I-75 at the traffic shift to place signs and pavement markings for the new Mound Rd. access.

After 2 p.m., EB I-696 will utilize the two right lanes to exit at Dequindre/Mound. The eastbound traffic that shifts onto westbound I-696 will only have access to Groesbeck and I-94 exits.
