Oakland County Road Commission is hiring for the winter

Posted

Right now, local road commissions have their eye on the weather forecast as metro Detroit prepares for early snow, while many are still working to get ready for winter.

The Oakland County Road Commission says it is keeping an eye on the temperatures not just in the air, but on the road surface. Right now the pavement is about 40 degrees, which is warm enough to hold heat for a while and melt a dusting of snow.

The commission is taking advantage of this snow to offer opportunities.

“We need part-time, temporary drivers to augment our snow plow driving staff in the winter time,” said Craig Bryson of the Oakland County Road Commission.

There are about 25 openings that pay up to $20 per hour. You do need to have a CDL-A. The road commission says it is an ideal job for someone who works construction during the summer and will soon be off work.

“The labor market is getting tighter, so it is getting harder to fill those positions,” Bryson said.
