The recount effort has been halted in Michigan for good, due to the Michigan Supreme’s Court’s decision that came down Friday.
Green Party Presidential Candidate, Jill Stein, said she’s not going to give up the fight for a more reliable voting system.
She held a rally in Detroit outside of Cobo on Saturday afternoon. About two dozen supporters attended.
Stein said the system failed voters in this election, she said here in Michigan there were 75,000 votes marked as blank for the presidential vote.
"75,000 blank votes but the margin of difference is only 10,000 votes here in Michigan, there are so many reasons we need to keep this going,” said Stein.
The Michigan Supreme Court denied Stein’s appeal for the recount because she didn’t have enough merit in the election.
"It's all of the voters actually who are an aggrieved party. Does it really matter who is filing this case? When there are so many glaring injustices that have surfaced already in just the first three days in which we had a recount,” said Stein.
Even thought the recount is stopped, Stein said change can still happen for future elections through new legislation.
"We need to get rid of the electronic voting machines we need to have automatic audits, which are making sure that the paper ballots are being counted correctly and we need to have automatic recounts if there is doubt about the integrity of the election or if the race is really close like this one,” said Stein.
