Hackel, Fouts in feud over Freedom Hill landfill

Warren Mayor James Fouts is asking for a state investigation into an alleged illegal dumping cover-up he says could be the next Flint Water Crisis.

Fouts has been pointing the finger at Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and now taking it a step further saying Hackel is threatening him.

Hackel says pollution isn't something discovered or uncovered by Fouts and he says he didn't threaten Mayor Fouts but he did call him on Sunday morning after receiving numerous messages from residents upset over the accusations Fouts has been making.

Last night in a Facebook post, Fouts accused Hackel of allowing the Freedom Hill landfill to move forward without basic plans and necessary approvals from environmental agencies accusing Hackel of "doing favors" for outside companies and looking the other way as Fouts says illegal dumping destroyed trees and created pollution.

On a local news station last night, he asked for the state to investigate the issue.

Hackel says there is no conspiracy or cover up, but there are some environmental concerns in some cities that he and other leaders are aware of and have been addressing.
