Ginger is a delicious and healthy spice that’s also been used for medicinal purposes. But does drinking ginger water come with health benefits as well?
There are plenty of studies supporting how this renowned herb can help with one’s health. But when it comes to ginger water, research is not conclusive.
One study that reported using hot ginger water found that participants who drank it after breakfast said they felt fuller afterward – and that could have a positive effect when it comes to weight management.
Another study found ginger water may help lower fasting blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. And drinking ginger water may also help with relieving pain. Research has found using ginger with painkillers was more effective than painkillers alone.
I’m a big fan of ginger and believe that food is medicine. So I would certainly recommend you give ginger water a try. Overall drinking ginger water appears to be safe however there are a few precautions. So before you try it out here are my prescriptions:
Partha’s RX
- Don’t drink too much ginger water as you could experience gas, loose stools, abdominal pain or heartburn.
- Ginger may interfere with blood-thinning medication so talk with your doctor first.
- Ginger is famous for helping with nauseousness and although there’s no research suggesting any harm, I still recommend you check with your doctor first if you’re pregnant and dealing with morning sickness.
- You can easily make your own ginger water, just be sure to buy fresh ginger looking for smooth skin and a delicious spicy smell.
Now remember ginger has a strong taste so you might want to add some honey or lemon to help with the flavor. You can also buy ginger water at the store as a herbal water, tea or juice. I think drinking ginger water is a great way to get more natural healthy fluids into your body rather than those sugary drinks too many people can consume.
