DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit Parks officials are looking for partners to make the historic Fort Wayne into a destination when the new Gordie Howe Bridge to Canada is opened in 2024. The site is a gem on the Detroit River and steeped in history.
“People will be able to bike and walk across this international bridge," says Meagan Elliott Detroit’s chief parks planner. "We want those people to come and visit Fort Wayne and we think this is a tremendous asset for Detroit and this region.”
The park has decayed over the decades with little maintenance. The renovation project will be expensive. Partners could include foundations, educational organizations and others. Detroit city officials will be sending out requests for partners in the next two weeks. Anyone with questions can contact that department.
