If you failed to appear for jury duty last year in Wayne County, Chief Judge Robet J. Colombo Jr. is giving you one more chance to appear before the court.
The chief judge will hold a news conference Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Coleman A. Young Building to let people know what they must do to avoid fines and jail time.
The court required more than 62,000 jurors to appear for jury service last year. Nearly 23,000 of them did not show.
“Jury service is the purest form of government because jurors are not subject to political considerations or contributions, but rather decide the case based upon the evidence. Jurors represent the thinking of the community. It is a service that should command the pride and pleasure of every citizen and should not be avoided," said Chief Judge Robert J. Colombo, Jr. in a statement.
If you missed jury duty in 2016, you're asked to call the Jury Services Department at 313-224-5254 or 313-224-5650.
