Teachers are known for reaching into their own pockets to help students from time to time -- and in an effort to curb some of that spending,GoFundMe has launched the $100,000 "We Love Teachers" contest

It’s all in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is actually being celebrated for two weeks this year.

The social fundraising platform is asking people to launch GoFundMe pages for classrooms across the country.

If funding for things like new books, art supplies or field trips is needed, teachers areencouraged to create a page by May 8. GoFundMe reports that other people can also start a page on a teacher's behalf.

The campaign must include #WeLoveTeachers in the description. Pages then have to raise at least $500 by May 18 to be eligible for the next part of the contest.

In the end, GoFundMe says it will donate $1,000 to 100 of the pages. One of the teachers will also reportedly be chosen to receive essential supplies for their entire school.

GoFundMe has suggested ways to create a successful fundraising campaign. Some of the tips include telling your story with heart, adding photos and video to your page, adding specific school supplies as wish list items, chatting with school officials about how funds would be withdrawn, sharing the campaign with friends and family and offering thanks to your supporters.

The company points out that more than $890,000 has been raised for K-12 classrooms through the platform in Michigan alone.
