DETROIT (WXYZ) — I-94 will close between I-75 and the Lodge Freeway this weekend for demolition of the Second Avenue overpass.
All lanes of I-94 will close starting 9 p.m. Friday, Jan 17 and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20.
During the closure, MDOT says westbound I-94 traffic will use southbound I-75 and westbound I-96 to go back to westbound I-94. The northbound and southbound Lodge ramps to westbound I-94 will remain open. All entrance ramps to westbound I-94 will be closed from Mt. Elliot to John R Street and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
Eastbound I-94 traffic will use eastbound I-96 and northbound I-75 to go back to eastbound I-94. The eastbound I-94 ramp to southbound Lodge will remain open. All entrance ramps to eastbound I-94 will be closed from 30th Street to Lodge.
Beginning Friday night, northbound and southbound Lodge ramps to eastbound I-94 will remain closed until fall. In addition, the John R Street entrance ramp to westbound I-94 will be closed for safety reasons.
All work on the $25.5 million project is expected to be completed in spring 2021. The bridge replacement is part of the I-94 modernization project. Click here for more information.
