There will soon be a cool place in our area to go for a “staycation.” It's an indoor water park in Wixom that will bring more jobs to the area.
“Anyone that we’ve told about the project loves the idea,” said Charley Damas of Damas Land Acquisitions.
The company bought a vacant lot off of Beck Road in Wixom near I-96. Damas Land Acquisitions purchased the land three weeks ago. The more than 80 acres has been vacant for decades.
The company is planning to build an indoor and outdoor water park, two hotels with conference spaces and an entertainment center.
“We’re hoping to be between 500 to 800 rooms,” Damas said.
They got the idea from the needs of their own families.
“We all have kids,” Damas explained. “We are always going to other water parks. There isn’t anything around here.”
Damas says the hotel and park will add at least 1,000 jobs.
In the past, the Damas Group has built commercial and office space, so this is an exciting new project for them.
“First major venture into the hotel arena,” he said.
The builders are still in their planning stages but at the very earliest they’re hoping to have this up and running by late 2020.
