Interactive map shows favorite holiday lights in Oakland Co.

Posted

Those looking for their favorite and some of the best holiday lights in Oakland County will have an easier way of finding them, thanks to the return of the Oakland County Holiday Lights map.

It was started by the Oakland County Information Technology Department, and can be found at OaklandCountyBlog.com/HolidayLightsMap.

“The Oakland County Holiday Lights map boosts the quality of life in the county by allowing families and
friends to get out into the community and enjoy the beautiful displays,” Oakland County Executive L.
Brooks Patterson said. “Most people only know about the displays in their local neighborhood. This is
an opportunity to visit other communities.”

It utilizes geographic information system technology and crowdsourcing for homeowners, businesses and communities to submit their displays. Last year, the county says all displays on the map had increased traffic.

In 2017, Our Dancing Lights in Auburn Hills raised $19,186.40 and were able to grant the wishes of two children, while My Light Show in Waterford Township raised $12,341.66 for the Michigan Humane Society.

To submit your light show, all you have to do is visit the Oakland County Holiday Lights Map, press the "+ Submit Your Light Display," upload a picture and press the Accept button!
