CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man has died following a crash Wednesday morning near the intersection of Ford and Haggerty Roads in Canton.

Canton Township Police were dispatched Wednesday at approximately 5:00 a.m. after a reported crash.

"Canton Police and Fire units responded to a 9-1-1 call early this morning for a pedestrian that had been struck by two vehicles," Canton Township Police said in a press release Wednesday.

The victim, police said is a 33-year-old male resident of Westland who was hit while attempting to cross northbound Ford Road near Haggerty.

The man was not using the crosswalk at the intersection when he was struck by two vehicles traveling westbound on Ford Road, police say.

He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

"The police department’s accident investigation unit has cleared the scene, and the intersection has been reopened to motorists," Canton police said.

The investigation remains ongoing. At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
