In an update from the Michigan Secretary of State's office at 1 p.m., officials said that turnout has been climbing steadily throughout the day and things are going as expected.
There have been 2,187,787 absentee ballot requests and1,756,313 absentee ballots returned, according to the SOS. There have been 3,892 same-day voter registrations.
According to the SOS, there have been reports of Department of Justice monitors in two cities doing things outside of their scope. The SOS said that the department did speak with the DOJ liaison in Michigan who said that that was not part of their training and was planning to follow-up with the monitors to reiterate what is allowed and not allowed under state law.
The SOS said that monitors can only be in contact with the precinct captain, and should observe the voting process.
However, according to a spokesperson for the office, monitors reportedly asked poll workers for copies of their training materials in Dearborn, and in Flint, asked poll workers about how they were trained.
