Ceremonies pay tribute to 9/11 victims

The nation is remembering the lives that were lost on 9/11. It is the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of thousands.

A number of local events have also been planned to commemorate 9/11.

Oakland County has draped a large American flag over the facade of the west wing of the Oakland County Circuit Court building. The flag will remain on the building until September 17th.

The Young Americans for Freedom chapter at the University of Michigan is sponsoring the 9/11: Never Forget Project, which will place 2,977 American flags on the University of Michigan Diag.

Sterling Heights will be hosting a ceremony titled 9/11: We Remember. It will feature Mayor Michael Taylor and Fire Chief Chris Martin, as well as a presentation of the US Honor Flag.

The JROTC Cadets of Western International High School will host a special commemoration ceremony at the school on Scotten Road in Detroit.

The City of Ypsilanti will be hosting a ceremony at the Eastern Michigan University 9/11 Memorial.

The City of Detroit is holding a remembrance ceremony at Campus Martius Park.
