ROSEVILLE (WXYZ) — "We're not sure if it was a straight street robbery for his money or the vehicle," said Roseville Deputy Police Chief Mitchell Berlin about a robbery that turned deadly Tuesday evening.
It happened at the car wash on Gratiot Avenue at Frazho Road around 7 p.m.
Roseville police said a 16-year-old was armed with a gun when he and an alleged accomplice approached a man who was vacuuming out his vehicle and announced a holdup.
Police said the man they allegedly targeted was also armed and they exchanged gunfire.
The armed teen was shot and ran to a nearby gas station where police took him into custody and transported him to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
The second suspect took off running after the shooting and got into a vehicle with someone before leaving the area.
Roseville police are hoping anyone who lives in the area of the car wash and may have seen the suspects or have images of them on any home cameras will contact them at 586-447-4484.
The 30-year-old robbery victim has been released pending the outcome of the investigation.
