GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Protesters spent about 4 1/2 hours voicing their frustrationsfollowing the video release of the police killing of Patrick Lyoya.

Demonstrators gathered at Rosa Parks Circle at 5 p.m. Wednesday. They marched down Monroe Center to the police department headquarters.

The crowd did a march around the perimeter of the police department at one point.

FOX 17's Josh Berry reports that some protesters saw police in riot gear in a parking ramp and grew increasingly irritated. The organizers of the protest seemed to move the protesters along to keep things calm.

There were two large city vehicles that followed the back of the crowd during the marches to keep everyone safe and prevent vehicles from hitting the crowd when it was in the street.

The crowd wrapped up for the night around 9:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.

Organizers announced to the crowd that they would gather at Rosa Parks Circle again on Thursday at 5 p.m.

GRPD said the deadly shooting happened on Monday, April 4, after what police described as a “lengthy struggle.”

After a struggle over the officer’s taser that lasted approximately 90 seconds, the officer shot Lyoya once in the back of the head.

Cell phone footage from a witness shows the officer shooting Lyoya in the back of the head after telling him to let go of the taser.
