DETROIT (WXYZ) — Lyft announced this week that it's expanding its Wheels for all Grants program aimed at helping Detroit-area nonprofits that are focused on building communities in the city.
Beginning in September, over 40 cities will award Lyft ride grants to nonprofits on a quarterly basis to help bridge transportation gaps for people and families in Detroit.
The grants will be for recipients determined by a local committee that is made up of Lyft employees and representatives from the Driver Advisory Council. Any 501(c)3 organization that operates in metro Detroit is eligible to apply at the Wheels for All Grants website.
“We’re proud to be able to offer this opportunity to non-profit organizations who are already making a positive impact on communities in the Detroit area,” said Elliot Darvick, Lyft’s Detroit Regional Director. “There’s a lot of great work being done, and Lyft is grateful to provide an opportunity for organizations who want to take their meaningful efforts even further.”
The program is one of Lyft City Works, which is the company's commitment to give 1 percent of profits to help cities across the country.
