Macomb County officials are standing their ground after allegations that correctional officers mishandled treatment of an inmate who died.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham spoke and then answered questions from reporters.
The press conference was held to address correctional procedures in relation to the death of 32-year-old David Stojcevski of Roseville. He had been locked up over a traffic violation.
The FBI has launched an investigation into Stojcevski's death, which happened last year. The county maintains they did nothing wrong saying they promote transparency and look forward to the FBI's findings.
Stojcevski was serving a 30-day sentence for failing to pay a traffic fine, but didn't make it past day 16.
A federal lawsuit filed on his behalf claims he withered away in his cell, losing weight at a rapid pace while hallucinating and suffering from seizures and drug withdrawal.
7 Investigators were able to confirm his death as acute withdrawal.
Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham did meet with the FBI earlier this week and handed over his findings.
