ROSEVILLE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Reconstruction of Gratiot Ave. will start in March and it's expected to last for the next two years.

During the first year, construction will take place both northbound and southbound between 11 Mile and Common Road. In the second year, construction will continue north between Common Road and 14 Mile.

“We will have two lanes open during peak hours, and off-peak hours between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., traffic may be reduced to one lane,” said Adam Wayne, Macomb Transportation Service Center Construction Engineer.

Wayne says this will be a complete reconstruction project of 3.4 miles of roadway. The goal is to provide a smoother ride while extending the lifespan of the road.

“The maintenance activities we do each year, pothole patching, asphalt repairs we are really not able to extend the life of the roadway anymore,” said Wayne.

On Wednesday at 5 p.m., the Michigan Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual meeting for drivers and businesses along Gratiot to learn more about the project. For information and a link to partake, click here.
