The man charged with the murder of Chelsea Bruck is headed to trial in the case.

He will now face charges of open murder (the jury can consider 1st degree murder or 2nd degree murder), and concealing the death of an individual. He had originally been charged with 2nd degree murder.

Daniel Clay, 27, was in court for his preliminary hearing Wednesday, where testimony was heard. Prosecutors called 14 witnesses.

Bruck disappeared October 26, 2014 after attending a Halloween party on Post Road in Frenchtown Township. Her remains were found April 24, 2015 in a wooded lot in Ash Township.

Investigators say Clay told them that he accidentally killed Bruck by choking her while they had "rough" sex in his car.

Clay claimed that she asked him to choke her. He told investigators that he tried CPR, but it didn't work. He said he "freaked out" and left her body in that wooded lot.

The Wayne County medical examiner revealed Bruck died of blunt force trauma to the head.

The defense did not present any witnesses during the preliminary hearing.

Back in July, while the Monroe County Sheriff's Department was investigating Clay, they found some of Bruck's belongings in the home he shared with his then girlfriend.
