Man critically injured after being shot in head inside basement of Eastpointe home

EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police are investigating a shooting that took place inside the basement of an Eastpointe home early Sunday.

A 20-year-old man was shot in the head by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene.

According to a media release, the shooting happened at 1:10 a.m. in the 23000 block of Normandy Ave.

Witnesses at the home say the victim was with two others in the basement of the home when an unknown suspect entered the home through a side door, then ran down the basement stairs and shot the victim. Witnesses say the shooting was for no apparent reason. The suspect then fled from the home in an unknown direction.

First responders administered medical aid to the victim on the scene. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say witnesses are being interviewed. No arrests have been made. Police have not released a description of the suspect.
