DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit firefighters saved a man from a burning home on Detroit’s east side early Thursday morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the call of a home on fire with people trapped inside on the 14000 block of Eastwood, near the intersection of 7 Mile and Gratiot.

The home is a family flat, with the fire concentrated on the second floor of the home.

A 7 Action News videographer spoke to an elderly woman on scene who said she lives in the home. She said her son was pulled out of the home by firefighters and taken to the hospital. Still no word on the man's condition.

Unfortunately, the family dog did pass away.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out around 2 a.m., shortly after they got the call.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
