Man shot in back during attempted robbery on Detroit's west side

Posted

An attempted robbery led to a shooting on Detroit's west side early Thursday, police say.

Police say a 20-year-old man was waiting for his girlfriend to answer the door around 1 a.m. on Abington near Ellis.

He stepped out to the street to have a cigarette when someone approached him, trying to rob him.

Police say words were exchanged, and the man tried running back to his girlfriend's house but was shot in the back.

He was somehow able to make it to the neighbor's house, who called the police and got him help.

Police are still investigating the incident.
